Charleston SC trip

We had originally planned to drive to St Louis for Christmas and spend 3 days there.  However the forecast called for snow from the WV mountains all the way to Illinois, on both the drive out and the way back.  The snow storms were each supposed to be up to and over a foot deep with blizzard warnings in place in Indianapolis and Columbus because of the high winds as well.  So....we had to cancel that road trip. Colleen's cousin Lori lives in Charleston SC and invited us down since there would be no snow between DC and SC.  Lori and her husband Scott have a lab named Lola who has met Kylie before, so we took Kylie down with us on the road trip.  On the way down after work Friday, we stopped halfway in Raleigh to spend the night and stay with Colleen's cousin Christine (Lori's sister).  Saturday we had sushi at our old favorite place Thai's Noodles and Sushi

Then we all hit the road for SC.  On Sunday we went to Poe's Tavern (Edgar Allan Poe served in the Navy for a long time in Charleston)...the fish tacos were delicious

Then we went to Fort Moultrie which was the site of many battles, from the Revolutionary War, to the War of 1812, the Civil War, and was even used during WWI and WWII as a base.  Avery enjoyed exploring the tunnels around the fort

And she enjoyed performing a "show" on one of the old cannon platforms as a stage

Then we walked over to the beach

We got a nice family photos on a piece of driftwood

And Avery turned into a model for a few minutes

The next day we had fun trying to get a family photo with the dogs and Avery

Some of these we said would be perfect for the "Awkward Family Photos" website.  Like this one with our fresh hunting prize

Or Lori cut out of the picture by Kylie

Avery digging away

And Avery photo bombing Lori and Scott's photo

We had fun opening gifts on Christmas

One of Avery's favorite was a doctor's kit, she liked checking Lola's heartbeat:

On the drive back Avery fell asleep with one of her new books up against her!

We had fun and were glad Lori and Scott could host us at the last minute!
