New Hope Valley Railway

We had a Groupon deal that we used last week for the New Hope Valley Railway, located about 20-25 minutes from us.

It was an old railroad, part of the CSX line, that went out service and a non-profit bought the line to run trains on for nostalgia.

It was a hot day for sure, so Avery had ice cream while we waited for our train ride.  Yes it was messy, but Avery loved feeding it to herself!

A lot of the old cars were part of a museum now

We waited at the platform and waited for the steam engine to back up and connect to our train

During the train ride, Avery really didn't like the steam engine!  Whenever it blew the whistle Avery screamed and cried!!!!  We were in the first car so we were of course right behind the engine, and we couldn't switch cars afrte it started.  Poor thing...  Luckily on the way back they switched the engine to the other side of the train so we were in the last car and it was much quieter.  Thus Avery had a much better time playing peek-a-boo with the conductor, waving at all the other kids on the train, etc!
